Service Pack Installation
All available Service Packs are displayed
in Available Service Packs
nested tab on the OS Status
tab. Before installing
Service Pack, define the location of the Service Pack source file by right-clicking on the
Service Pack item, and selecting Define Service Pack Source Location
menu
item. Select the location of the source file on your local machine or on a network
share. Make sure to select the correct source file for NT Service Packs (both
standard- and high-encryption versions of Service Pack self-extracting executable will be shown, if present at
the selected location). You can also send Administrative Alert to the selected
computers before installing Service Pack.
This customizable message will be displayed on remote machines within several seconds. To
install Service Pack, right-click on the Service Pack item, and select Install Service
Pack menu item. Alternatively, you can select Service Pack item and click on
Install button on the toolbar.
After the Service Pack Installation dialog comes up, you can select the following
options:
- Do not create uninstall:
this option is disabled by default; enabling it will prevent creation of uninstall
directory on the target computers.
- Do not reboot: this
option is disabled by default; enabling it will prevent the target machine from rebooting.
(Note: in order to detect successful Service Pack installation, the target computer must
be rebooted)
- Scheduled SP Installation:
allows
to schedule Service Pack installation at a later time.
Checking the box Scheduled SP Installation causes the
scheduling dialog to be invoked. Once the date and time are selected, and
dialog dismissed the SP Installation dialog will display the countdown for
the scheduled installation as shown below.

During the installation process, the
progress for each target machine is displayed separately. If the installation process
fails for a particular machine, the failure status and the detailed description of the
failure is displayed adjacent to the corresponding target computer in the list. Despite
of
the failure, the installation of the Service Pack on the rest of the selected computers
will continue.
Service Pack Manager provides continues
user feedback about the installation state, including the reboot state of the target
machine. To receive confirmation of successful Service Pack installation, you have to
perform the NetQuery after the Service Pack has been installed on the target machine.
