Net Groups
- User-defined Computer Groups
The
NetGroup feature allows to create custom groups of networked computers and
organize them hierarchically on the network tree according to the user’s
needs
In
addition, it proved itself very useful in situation where system
administrator wants to perform an upgrade of the mission critical machines
that are hidden from the domain’s master browser for security reasons.
It allows adding the desired machine to the network tree by manually
typing the network/domain/machine names or an IP address. In addition, the
machine name can be picked-up from the network browser dialog. Entire hierarchical lists of machines can be imported from
and exported to a file in .CSV (Comma Separated Values) format.
The NetGroup feature is present both on OS Status tab and Product Status
tab. However, the created groups of computers are separate and could be
different on each tab to achieve maximum flexibility. To achieve identical
groups of computers on OS Status tab and Product Status tab, the user
should use the Import and Export capabilities. For example, the computer
groups created on OS Status tab can be exported to a .CSV file. Then, on
the Product Status tab those groups can be imported from that .CSV file.
The import functionality always adds the imported computer groups to
already-existing ones.
