Obtaining New Patches
Service Pack Manager ships with the most updated
patch database available at the time the setup packages is built. This is
correct for both retail and trial versions.
When Microsoft publishes new patches (usually
every 2nd Tuesday of the month) Gravity Storm Software incorporates them into
patch database within 24 hours or less and publishes the updated patch database
on the company web site.
Users that either purchased and installed SPM in
the past or those that recently downloaded it's free trial version have
convenient alternatives for getting new updated patch database using LiveUpdate
functionality:
- Manual LiveUpdate
On the OS Info tab click on the LiveUpdate button on the toolbar. The
updated patch database related to Windows OS patches is downloaded to your
local machine and silently replaces the old database.
On the Product Info tab click on the LiveUpdate button on the
toolbar. The updated patch database related to Microsoft products (such as
SQL, Exchange, etc.) is downloaded to your local machine and silently
replaces the old database.
- Scheduled LiveUpdate
On the Configuration Options tab check the checkbox Schedule Unattended
LiveUpdates. Then, you can either provide a schedule for one-time
LiveUpdate or for repeating ones. You can also check the box Automatically
Download New Patches checkbox which will cause all new or modified
patches in the database to be automatically downloaded to a Download
Directory. The LiveUpdate polls Gravity Storm Software's web site as
scheduled, and checks for new patches. It is recommended to schedule
repeating LiveUpdates weekly to conserve bandwidth.
